Hubert Hurkacz's coach, Craig Boynton spoke to ATP Tour about how is it to train the Polish no. 1 and possible future star of men's tennis.
Hubert Hurkacz is one of the most talented tennis players Poland ever had. At the age of 23, he is already on the 29th place in the
ATP Ranking and
looks forward to improving. Hurkacz didn't have a very successful 2020 season so far. He managed to win only 8 out of the 13 matches he played.
On the other hand, last year he started with his 3rd Challenger title and moved to the ATP Tour. He also managed to win his first ATP title in Winston-Salem.
Hurkacz defeated Paire in the final to win his first ATP Tour trophy.
"I think Hubi is working through part of that learning curve and dealing with how to be a professional tennis player day-in and day-out at the highest level. That’s just something that every tennis player takes a little bit of time to really work through and understand. I think he’s at that point, and I think he’s doing a great job with it," Boynton said about Hurkacz.
"I think his understanding of things has improved. That doesn’t always necessarily translate into better performance yet, but it’s really difficult when athletes have questions and don’t have the answers. Now Hubi is starting to get the answers. It takes a bit of the time to get the answers and then implement the changes and then you implement the changes and you go forward. Then you play [tournaments] and you run into, “What do I need to learn now?”
"The work and improvements here and there are great, but his willingness to want to come back the next day after something bad happens with a good attitude and that he is willing to work and willing to be coached, that is what I admire the most."
