Holger Rune has expressed his delight at Caroline Wozniacki's invitation to form a mixed doubles team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The current world No. 6 Rune has had a strong start to his Wimbledon run, defeating George Loffhagen 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2. This comes after an impressive season on the ATP Tour, beating 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the Rome Open, before reaching the semi-finals of the Queens Club Championships without dropping a set.
Many fans are hopeful for the future of the 20-year-old, and it seems that this could now involve a mixed doubles pairing with fellow Dane Caroline Wozniacki.

Rune delighted at compatriot's comeback

Speaking in a press conference after his opening match at the SW19, Rune was asked about his thoughts on Wozniacki's comeback after initially retiring three years ago. Rune replied that he was "super happy" to hear of the former world No. 1's return to tennis, saying
"You know I’m super happy she’s coming back. I saw her at the French Open and she looked in very very good shape. I don’t know, I was thinking, and I actually told my mum like she's just in that good shape or she’s thinking about something and she did so it’s really great. I'm super happy for her."
The 32-year-old's last match was at the Australian Open in early 2020, where she lost to Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in the third round. In June 2021, she gave birth to her daughter, before welcoming her second child, a son, in October 2022. She has also been working in commentary and punditry with Tennis Channel.
Recently though, she announced her comeback, and it seems she has big goals in mind.

A Danish doubles dream team?

Rune also expressed great excitement at the prospect of playing mixed doubles for Denmark at the Olympics with the 2018 Australian Open champion,
"I was so happy when she said that. It could be very very funny," he said.
If their joint talent and experience is anything to go by, they could be a real contender at the Games in 2024.
