A host of current tennis players have expressed their reservations
for the
Pickleball Slam.
The competition was first held last year by the likes of
former world number one Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and John McEnroe.
The format of the Pickleball is the same as the doubles category
event in professional tennis but the court is smaller where players play with a
different kind of racket.
A few current players expressed their reservations regarding
the Pickleball Slam in a video posted during the US Open.
“I am not a massive fan of it, to be honest,” said the
former world number one Britain’s
Andy Murray.
Russia’s
Andrey Rublev could also be seen in the video where
he suggested that he is not a big fan of Pickleball because it is a newer
version of a sport that is already very famous in the world.
“[Not a big fan] because this is just a new sport that is
already at the top of the search,” said the 25-year-old.
Britain’s Cameron Norrie was of the opinion that Pickleball
doesn’t require any special skill. “For me, it doesn’t require any special
skill,” he said.
Norway’s Casper Ruud stated that an interesting reason for
not having any interest in Pickleball. “Kind of feels like the Pickleball is a
baby brother of tennis so you know you always pick on your baby brother,” he
said.
