The ATP Rankings have been updated today, Monday, September 11, following the US Open, as Novak Djokovic regains the top spot while Ben Shelton makes a major breakthrough.
Following a dramatic two weeks full of intense battles at the last Grand Slam of the year in New York, the rankings have undergone a shake-up. Most notably, Djokovic has moved back up to World No. 1, dethroning Carlos Alcaraz after a successful run at Flushing Meadows which saw the Serb win his 24th major title.
However, Djokovic has known that he would be back at the top since his first-round match, as the 45 points earned from this were more than enough to make up the 20-point gap between himself and the Spaniard, who will now drop to No. 2.

Zverev re-enters top 10 while Ruud drops

After reaching the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows, Alexander Zverev has re-entered the top 10. The German has been as high as World No. 2 before but dropped out after an ankle injury last year. Now, it seems as though he is back, currently sitting at World No. 10. This means that Frances Tiafoe has now moved down to eleventh, despite also making the US Open quarter-finals.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Andrey Rublev has moved up two places from eighth to sixth after also making a run to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, fellow quarter-finalist Taylor Fritz also went up one spot from ninth to eighth.
Stefanos Tsitsipas re-entered the top 5 despite being eliminated in the second round of the Slam, while Holger Rune held onto No. 4 in the face of a first-round exit.
Casper Ruud's place in the top 10 seems at risk after falling from No. 5 to No. 9. The 2022 US Open finalist lost a significant amount of ATP Ranking points when he was defeated in the second round of this year's New York major.

Ben Shelton's meteoric rise

Outside the top 10, Shelton has made a significant leap up the rankings after a surprise run to the semi-finals of the US Open. The young player was unseeded at the Slam but has now risen 28 places to break through into the top 20 as the World No. 19, making him the best mover in the top 50.
Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka has moved up nine spots to re-enter the top 40 and Dominic Thiem has risen from 81st to 73rd.
