Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenze have been engaged since the summer and will celebrate their first Christmas together as fiancées after first meeting in 2022. Lorenze opened up about her holiday plans with the American tennis player.
As much as Paul will enjoy Christmas, he will have half an eye on the upcoming tennis season with him looking to return to the court in an emphatic manner. The world number 20 enjoyed a lightning start to last season, reaching consecutive quarter-final in Grand Slam events while also making it to the semi-final of the Rome Open. This saw him reach a career-high of world number eight, a testament to his incredible form.
This form was not here to stay. His season derailed after injuries caught up to the 28-year-old. His last appearance in an ATP match was at the US Open where he was defeated in a five-set thriller to Alexander Bublik. He has since sat out the Asian swing and European indoor hardcourt swing as he looks to recover from his injuries. He has recently featured in the
Garden Cup exhibition, making his first foray back into tennis. He defeated the also returning Nick Kyrgios in a last set tiebreaker before losing in the doubles alongside Aryna Sabalenka.
Paul will get back to action in the Adelaide International set to take place from January 12-18. He will be hoping to get back to winning ways on the other side of the world ahead of the Australian Open, commencing from January 18 - February 1. Paul has previously made the semi-final of the event in 2023, his best result in major events.
Christmas traditions with Lorenze
However, before he can make his long-awaited return to the court, the former number eight must first celebrate Christmas. Lorenze, who is the founder of the Americana-inspired lifestyle and clothing brand Dairy Boy, spoke with
PEOPLE how she feels about being engaged with the former world numner eight. "Everything is so much better since being engaged," Lorenze stated. "In a sort of cheesy way, everything feels more serious and more special, and it feels like we're starting our own traditions,"
They will be bringing in their own Christmas traditions as they get closer together, with Lorenze opening up on her families' traditions at the most wonderful time of the year.
"We do a Christmas Kringle, a Danish Kringle every single Christmas," she said. "So we'll definitely be bringing that." A Danish kringle is a flaky, buttery, filled pastry that is the official state pastry of Wisconsin. It is a very sweet treat for them to enjoy on December 25.
As well as that, she talks about how they get a Christmas tree. Instead of buying a new tree or re-using one previously perched up in December, they go and cut one down, a job passed down to Paul/ "My dad used to do it," Lorenze says. "He doesn't do it anymore, but I think there's something so fun about having your dad cut down your tree."
The duo are already planning out their wedding, with Paul's 'good taste' meaning he is on duty of planning out which foods will be served. "I trust him," she says. "I talk to him about everything, so he's very involved."
As they continue to be at each other's side, there is one thing in mind when it comes to their relationship: "Being each other's biggest fan."
