Alex de Minaur has quietly developed into a world-class talent on the professional tour. The Australian star is firmly inside the top 10 and has ambitions of climbing even higher in the rankings.

Alongside his growing success on the court, de Minaur has been in a relationship with fellow tennis player Katie Boulter, and the couple announced their engagement in December 2024. In an interview with ATP, de Minaur gave insight into their relationship and how it has helped him navigate the challenges of life on tour.

The career of Alex de Minaur

The 25-year-old Australian is a formidable competitor, known for his speed, defensive skills, and all-court game. He turned professional in 2015 and has been steadily rising ever since.

De Minaur has secured nine ATP singles titles and made a Grand Slam quarter-final at the 2020 US Open. In 2023, he became the first Australian to qualify for the ATP Finals since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004, a testament to his progress.

As he continues to move up the rankings, de Minaur is also learning to manage the increased expectations that come with being a top player.

"It's funny the change. I was No. 11 or 12 two years ago," de Minaur explained.

"Then I moved up one spot, two spots, which made such a big difference. In terms of eyeballs, the media, the pressures, the expectation, all of that."

De Minaur also spoke about his relationship with British tennis star Katie Boulter, highlighting how their shared experiences on tour make life easier.

"It does help the weeks that I'm with Katie. It makes it a lot easier to be so far away from home. They are long stints," he told ATP.

"I mean, a lot of time on the road. It's important for me to try to do stuff wherever we are."

He also shared how they spend time together off the court, making sure to enjoy a sense of normalcy despite the demands of professional tennis.

"It is important to try and go out for dinners, go out for coffees, try to make life as normal as you can. And enjoy the time with the people you have.

"Whether it's friends, whether it's players, your team. That's the best way to make time go quicker in these long stints.

"Because ultimately, there's the tennis side of things, it's always going to be intense and stressful, and a lot of focus needed for that, but as soon as you step off the court, try to immerse yourself in the different cities, the different activities, restaurants, coffees, and just live as much of a normal life as you can."

What’s next for de Minaur?

With his career on an upward trajectory, de Minaur is poised to make even bigger strides in 2025. His determination and passion for the game remain strong, and he is ready to take his career to new heights.

As he continues to inspire tennis fans worldwide, his journey in the coming season will be one to watch closely.
