Over the weekend Rafael Nadal was asked about the Davis Cup where and he gave a merger proposal which is backed by the ITF Chief

The 2020 season opened with the so-called ATP Cup which is a new competition featuring players playing for their respective countries. Now a couple of weeks later we have the Davis Cup starting and Rafael Nadal thinks it's too much.
Speaking to the media he responded to a Davis Cup question with:
"My opinion is very clear. Two competitions, team competitions, in less than a month is not good for our sport." He continued explaining:
"Is good for some players, of course, because they are able to get the higher prizemoney. Spectators have been excited with Davis Cup. Now first competition, official competition, they are watching [next] again on the tour is another team competition.
I think we need to be together. We need to make something big, and one World Cup. ”
Nadal hasn't been the only one calling for such a merger. ITF chief David Haggerty echoed similar sentiments:
"We've said one event – one big event – should be great for tennis. We have an ongoing dialogue because I think we need to really look at it…I think that he (Nadal) feels the same way. I think the players are saying that so there's a lot of similar statements being made, so it's now sitting down and trying to figure out how we can accomplish that. "
It's an interesting prospect and would be good for tennis but the logistics of such a merger will require time and preparation so fans should not expect it to come soon. A unified National team tennis championship will, however, exist one day and it will be good for tennis overall.
