Former Wimbledon doubles champion Frederik Lochte is excited to see the prospect of three players from Denmark in the main draw of the US Open.

The final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin in exactly a month’s time in New York where players from all over the world will participate and showcase their talent.

With the return of former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, as many as three players from Denmark are set to take part in the main draw of the US Open this year including Holger Rune and Clara Tauson.

Lochte, while speaking to SpilXperten, expressed excitement in seeing that many players from the Scandinavian country and called it a ‘huge’ development.

“It’s huge that she (Wozniacki) is going to play again,” he said. “It’s going to be really great. It’ll be awesome to follow her again, and from a Danish perspective, it’s just fantastic to have another player to follow at the tournaments. It’s absolutely superb to have three Danes in the main draw of the US Open. It’s damn huge.

“It’s truly significant to have both Holger Rune, Clara Tauson, and Caroline Wozniacki participating, especially because they are competitive. These are three players who one can hope to see in the second week of the various Grand Slams.”

Wozniacki has an impressive record while playing at the US Open where she finished twice as the runner-up — in 2009 after losing to the former world number one Belgium’s Kim Clijsters(7-5, 6-3) and then in 2014 after coming the second best against America’s Serena Williams (6-3, 6-3).

On the other hand, the world number six Rune’s best appearance in the competition came last year when he was knocked out in the third round after losing to Britain’s Cameron Norrie with a score of 7-5, 6-4, 6-1.

Tauson has the least impressive record out of all the three Danish players, having never played in the third round or beyond in the US Open.
