Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena sent their help to
Kosovo
The World No. 1 has made headlines several times for
his philanthropic work at the Novak Djokovic Foundation, which works primarily
with initiatives in education for children in deprived areas of Serbia. This
time they auctioned a 2023 collection shirt of the 22-time Grand Slam Champion.
Although Nole was unable to attend the event held in
Austria, Vienna, his wife Jelena was present as the director of the foundation.
As she shared on social networks, Djokovic's shirt was auctioned for 11,000,
which goes directly to supporting children from the city of Kosovska Mitrovica
located in Kosovo, a neighboring country of Servia.
“The jersey was sold for 11,000e and all the money
goes to Kosovska Mitrovica to increase the capacity of kindergarten for our
children” Jelen wrote.
“Thank you, Aco, for the wonderful words about our
charity work and Novak’s success”.
Few weeks ago, after Djokovic won the Australian Open,
he was interviewed by former Indian player Samdev Devvarman, who also referred
to the support Djokovic and his wife give to social causes:
"There's
the Novak Djokovic Foundation that you and your wife Jelena have been running
for many years. Whenever there are floods in Serbia or somewhere in the world,
Novak is there" the ex-tennis player said.
"When
there are fires in Australia, Novak is there. When Ukraine needs support
and Sergiy Stakhovsky reaches out, Novak is there. Where there's fundraisers,
Novak is there,".
The Serbian now awaits the response of the United
States authorities for his request for an exemption, with the aim of being able
to play Indian Wells and the Miami Open, but for the moment it is more likely
that the world No. 1 will be absent from both Master 1000.
