Indian Wells for a second time this week has encountered a rain delay as action has just resumed in the past hour after most of the night was stop start. In fact it was stopped four times over the course of the night.
Resuming just after 6:45pm, the longest time without play was in fact three hours and six minutes. Play was suspended earlier in the day with the first matches starting around an hour late before getting underway at just before mid day.
A second delay happened at 1:20pm and this last 50 minutes before play ended for two hours due to more rain. More came as dryers were used in vein. Light rain started back up and they were told to leave the court again.
The four rain delays have totaled five hours and 22 minutes throughout the day on Tuesday. Ten of the 22 main draw matches scheduled for Tuesday have been completed.
In the women's tournament, Elina Svitolina saw off Jessica Pegula after almost three hours off the court throughout in an epic comeback win. Arthur Fils was also delayed for more than three hours.
In fact Giron v Fils is now restarted after more than three hours off. Elena Rybakina v Mirra Andreeva has also restarted with the Russian currently leading what could be a crushing win up a set and a double break. Zheng Qinwen v Marta Kostyuk and Tommy Paul v Daniil Medvedev are the only two games which have been continued after this.
Others will take place tomorrow in the schedule it seems. Not the advertisement they want and throws the draw behind. But as ever with weather, not a lot else that can in fact be done about it in the end.
Thankfully being at the Last 16 and Quarter-Final stage, there aren't many games to reposition but could mean some play twice later on down the line.
