Rajeev Ram is one accomplished doubles player but now on top of his career, he will become a coach trying to balance those two callings at the same time.
Rajeev Ram has a long a storied career that is still going and the 9th best Doubles player in the world signed up as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of California players. It's a sort of homecoming to his roots as he held the same exact positions at the University of Illinois where he became a pro himself. The reigning
Australian Open champion said that those duties will not interfere with his playing career which he doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.
About the appointment he said:
“With the NCAA rules, it’s very difficult to practice with the team unless you’re a member of it in some way. College coaching is something I’ve thought about after I’m done playing. I thought I could learn a bit about how it all works and [head coach] Peter Wright is a phenomenal person to learn from. I think I could be good at it and it’ll be a fun experience to figure out. It could help me in a lot of ways as much as it may help them.”
Ram is currently in Northern California where he is preparing for the season resumption. It's the first time he missed any significant playing time as he was fortunate enough to avoid any significant injuries in his career.
