Venus Williams hosted a live Q and A on her Instagram where she reflected upon her biggest Wimbledon moments and what better than her first maiden title.
Venus Williams, on what would have been the traditional quarterfinal day, hosted a Q and A session on her Instagram account where she answered questions about
Wimbledon. The 2000 title run from Venus was one of the most dominant ever. What's even more impressive is that she dealt with major injuries that season which saw her play only three tournaments before
Wimbledon.
None of that bothered her as the lost only one set in 7 matches en route to the trophy. Speaking about her memories from that run she said:
"I remember going into that tournament and I said to myself, 'I'm winning this tournament. It's my turn, no one else... and that's the only time that I've ever gone into a tournament like that."
She continued:
"I felt like I paid my dues, that I'd had my tough losses, I felt like I learned my lessons, and that it was my turn. I knew I was going to win... and it happened."
It was a glorious run that saw her defeat Hingis, Serena, and Davenport in the final 3 rounds. For her winning, the Wimbledon was all. She spoke about how she choose Wimbledon as her career goal early on.
"The Wimbledon title meant everything for me growing up. My dad said, 'Pick a tournament that you want to win more than any other tournament,' and I chose Wimbledon. Serena picked Wimbledon too, but he told her to pick another one, because he wanted her to have her own identity, so she picked the US Open. You have to have goals, so that was the start of it all."
