In a new
Daily Dose of Social Media,
Jannik Sinner shared some photos after the launch of his new foundation, while
Paula Badosa and Bianca Andreescu showed on social media how they enjoyed a few days off—the Spanish player traveling to Hong Kong after Spain's elimination from the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Meanwhile, the Laver Cup is taking place in San Francisco, with 20-time Grand Slam champion
Roger Federer as one of the main protagonists, specially after his meeting with his former rival (and world No. 1) Andy Roddick, in addition to the appearance of the 18-year-old star
Joao Fonseca, who celebrated his debut with a victory in the tournament on Friday night.
Jannik Sinner launches foundation
Jannik Sinner participated in the launch event for the Jannik Sinner Foundation this week, where the world No. 2 was in Milan with more than 100 guests for the launch of the initiative that seeks to empower children through sports. “I’ve been lucky to pursue my passion through tennis, but I know millions of children never get the chance to follow their dreams because they don’t have access to school,” the 4-time major champion said. “Standing here tonight, I see the project is finally alive, and we are ready to help children realise their dreams.”
The Italian participated in the event right before traveling to Beijing to start the Asian swing, with an ATP 500 tournament where he will be the top seed. The draw will feature big names with five top-10 players, also including Alexander Zverev and Lorenzo Musetti, among others. It will be Sinner's only tournament before the Shanghai Masters, the next Masters 1000 tournament where he will meet Carlos Alcaraz again.
The Italian shared some photos of his participation in the event on social media. “An evening to remember in Milan! Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the official launch of the @janniksinnerfoundation Our mission is to help children pursue their dreams through education and sport. This is only the beginning.”
Badosa uses Hong Kong stop to gear up
Paula Badosa returned to the courts this week in Shenzhen for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals with Spain, after two months away from competition. The Spanish player shared photos of a few days she spent in Hong Kong—taking advantage of her trip to Asia—before returning to China to play in the Beijing Open. The former world No. 2 has been physically challenged in recent months, once again dealing with her recurring back injury, although she is now on her way back, having played a match for the first time since June, when she fell in the first round of Wimbledon.
The former Indian Wells champion had returned to the top 10 in the first part of the year, but injuries prevented her from competing in several tournaments and caused a significant drop in her ranking to No. 20. Badosa played this week in Spain's series against Ukraine in the BJK Cup quarterfinals but ended up losing to Elina Svitolina in three sets, ending the Spanish team's run in the round of 8.
Fonseca shines in Laver Cup debut
Joao Fonseca is one of the most-watched players at this Laver Cup, making his debut on Friday for Team World, securing his team's first victory by defeating Flavio Cobolli in straight sets. The 18-year-old Brazilian star has captured attention in the days leading up to the tournament and quickly showed his great level on the court, debuting with a victory and giving Team World their first point.
The world No. 42 shared a photo expressing his joy for his successful tournament debut and the opportunity to be part of Team World, alongside figures like Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, and Francisco Cerundolo. “Teamwork makes the dream work. Happy to get the point for the team on such a special day full of positive energy. Let's keep it going, Team World! 💪🏻🇧🇷🌎”
Federer Is the center of attention at Laver Cup, reunites with Andy Roddick
Roger Federer has been one of the protagonists at the Laver Cup. Three years after his retirement from the courts, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is one of the most-watched figures in San Francisco during the tournament that pits Team Europe against Team World. The Swiss Maestro had a fun moment at the gala night when he almost knocked over a 'tree' of champagne bottles as he was preparing to pose for official photos on the first night of the tournament.
The former world No. 1 also met this afternoon with none other than Andy Roddick to participate in a live episode of the Served Podcast with the American former world No. 1, one of his biggest rivals in the first part of Federer's career. Unfortunately for Roddick, he had to compete against the best years of Federer's career, facing him 24 times with 21 victories for Federer, including four Grand Slam finals that ended with victories for Federer, including the memorable 2009 Wimbledon final which reached a thirty-game fifth set, and ended in favor of the Swiss.
