The finals of the 2025
French Open have somewhat went to script this year with the top two seeds from each part of the draw coming through to face off.
Aryna Sabalenka v
Coco Gauff and
Carlos Alcaraz v
Jannik Sinner will take place over Saturday and Sunday.
It is the first time since 1984 that both the men's and women's singles finals at
Roland Garros will feature both the World No.1 and World No.2 in action facing off against each other.
Those being Sabalenka who is the World No.1 and Gauff who is World No.2. Iga Swiatek has long been World No.2 but relinquished it to Gauff after a poor clay court run. While Sabalenka has been the long standing queen of women's tennis.
The same can be said in the men's which has gone through some changes albeit the two that remain in the men's perhaps are the two that are seen as the leading duo. That being Jannik Sinner who despite being banned for the majority of the season is still World No.1. He will look to win the French Open for the first time.
He faces off against Alcaraz who is the defending champion and has a busy few months in defending titles when the roles will then revert to Sinner. He defends Roland Garros tomorrow (Sunday) then heads onto the grass courts of Wimbledon where he is also champion.
But if fans wanted the two top names from each draw in the final. That is exactly what they've got and it unlocks a first for the first time since 1984.
A run of over 40 years without such a feat and a welcome change for a tournament that has seen Swiatek v the field in the women's and often Nadal v the field in the men's in recent years. Sinner v Alcaraz is a first though in a final and is seen as a rivalry that will bear this final again and again.
