SCHEDULE and PREVIEW | 2024 Australian Open Day Two: Monday in Melbourne featuring GAUFF, OSAKA-GARCIA and MEDVEDEV all in action

Monday sees Day Two of the 2024 Australian Open with a stacked schedule forming part of our preview as Coco Gauff, Daniil Medvedev and Naomi Osaka among others start their campaigns in Melbourne.

So many top names are involved that the likes of Elina Svitolina and Andy Murray will play some of the popcorn matches on the outside show courts instead of the leading two and as ever at the first Grand Slam of the season, there is stories everywhere you look.

On Rod Laver Arena though there are four must watch matches on paper at least as Coco Gauff in her first Grand Slam as the US Open champion will continue to get top court billing as one of two WTA matches during the second day when she takes on Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. Following that is an interesting pick for many reasons as Matteo Berrettini faces Stefanos Tsitsipas.

An interesting one as neither player is in any form at all and has struggled with injury. A few years ago, it would've been first on the show courts similar to Dominic Thiem v Felix Auger-Aliassime further down. But Berrettini has not played since his season was curtailed by injury after the US Open and Tsitsipas has been in exhibition action but since before the ATP FInals has not been 100%.

So either it could be an early night with retirement for one player or a potential barnstormer and the likelihood is that organisers are hoping for the latter. Same can be said for Milos Raonic's return to Australia. After playing a few tournaments in an unexpected comeback, he will face a hugely tough test and the reason for this clash being on RLA in Alex de Minaur who always seems to come alive this time of year and has that incredible win over Novak Djokovic to fall back on at the United Cup. Girlfriend Katie Boulter said they can hardly walk down the street due to paparazzi in Australia and he will hope to be the star of the show this fortnight.

As will a returning Naomi Osaka. A two-time champion in Australia and a welcome return to action as she faces a tough test similar to the one in Brisbane against Karolina Pliskova in Caroline Garcia who continue to fall down the rankings albeit with smatterings of good displays after being in some of the best form of her life just over a year ago. Fly with Caro will aim to take off as she aims to dump out Osaka and pay heed to early buzz about the former World No.1.

As mooted, there are stars wherever you look on Day Two with Daniil Medvedev starting his campaign on Margaret Court Arena early in the day session which also features that Thiem-Auger-Aliassime clash, Ons Jabeur and Donna Vekic facing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkovsa. Also on further courts include many Australians involved.

As is Marketa Vondrousova who was a doubt coming into the tournament with injury, but will unlike her compatriot Karolina Muchova who has been suffering similar rotten luck actually play in Melbourne. She takes on Dayana Yastremska.

Other ties to look out for include a likely five hour epic as Andy Murray faces Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Adrian Mannarino faces Stan Wawrinka in a veteran battle and in a likely entertaining affair, Ben Shelton returns for a duel with Roberto Bautista Agut. Mirra Andreeva also begins her campaign, as do Gael Monfils and Paula Badosa among others. Stories wherever you look on Monday.
