The
Hopman Cup began its revival on Wednesday in a new location of Nice in France with a major shock to open the tournament as
Holger Rune and
Clara Tauson for Denmark lost to Switzerland.
Tauson gave the Danes a good start with a straight sets win over Celine Naef who is ranked World No.157 and replaced Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-3.
But it started to fall off with the anchor of the team in Holger Rune, the World No.6 going down to World No.157, Leandro Riedi in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to the latter.
The Swiss pair then combined to beat Tauson and Rune 6-3, 7-5 to seal a 2-1 win. Denmark will now have to return to face France who are Richard Gasquet and Alize Cornet.
They play on Friday against the Swiss, while Spain, Belgium and Croatia sit in the other group.
