Boris Becker has said that Carlos Alcaraz' Wimbledon win will go down in history as he downed the king of grass in Novak Djokovic who missed out on a record equalling eighth title.
Becker said that it was a changing of the guard and the day that Alcaraz became a man.
This is high praise given that Becker is of course the former coach of Djokovic and hasn't been short of praise for his former player before.
As well as of course his own status as a legendary tennis star but like many has singled Alcaraz out for praise after his victory last weekend.
"I see it as a changing of the guard," said Boris Becker. "I see it as a match that will go down in history. And we will be talking about it in ten years. That’s the day Carlos Alcaraz became a man."
He added: "Who did he do it against? Yes, against the most successful of all time, not just anyone. He was also already ranked number one in the world, even before the tournament. But at the end of the day, you have to show it in a Grand Slam final against the best of the bunch and that’s Djokovic."
