Jannik Sinner burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion and he is eager to learn for the game's best.
A pandemic wasn't really what anybody in the tennis world hoped for but for
Jannik Sinner that didn't change much. The aspiring superstar used this break from competitive tennis to work on his skills. Under the watchful eye of his coach, Piatti Sinner is preparing for a couple of exhibition tournaments in Europe before traveling to America to play in the US Open tour.
Speaking to La Gazzeta dello Sport Piatti said:
"Jannik lives for his sport. It is not a burden for him. He has always trained even during the lockdown. His dedication is crucial to become a great star in the future, but has still a lot of work to do. He is the strongest young player I have ever trained."
A crucial component for Sinner going forward will be a chance to train and learn from the tennis greats like Nadal and Federer. On that Piatti said:
"We are not looking only for congratulations for Jannik. We are of course very pleased with them, but my main goal is to contribute to his growth by giving him the chance to train with Federer and Nadal. They are blessed with talent, but they also have a mental approach, that is completely different from other players. I want Jannik to learn from these big stars."
It wouldn't be the first time he did that as he trained with Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open. And as Piatti put it, that won't be the last time either:
“I have already talked with Carlos Moya and we will arrange other opportunities in the future. I want Sinner to have the chance to learn how Rafa faces the problems on the court”.
He also arranged for Jannik to meet with John McEnroe once they land in the US. Piatti is hopeful John can provide him with some good advice before the North American tour. If Jannik continues to play as he did he will certainly improve his ranking which peaked at 73 earlier in the year. He became the youngest player in the top 80 since Rafael Nadal did it in 2003.
