Iga Swiatek has once again proved why she has been world No. 1 for 72 weeks with an impressive statistic showing she has won almost 30% of her sets played this season 6-0 or 6-1.
Swiatek has been a dominant force on the WTA Tour for over a year now. At just 22 years old, she already has four Grand Slam titles to her name, three at the French Open and one at the US Open.
Following a win on home soil at the Poland Open last month, the top seed is currently competing at the Cincinnati Open, defeating Danielle Collins in the first round 6-1, 6-0.

New stat shows how hard it is to beat Swiatek

Moreover, it has now been revealed that Swiatek has won 38 of the 127 sets she has played this year either 6-0 or 6-1.
Four of these were at the Roland Garros back in May, where the Polish player achieved her latest major title. Throughout the tournament, Swiatek won one set 6-0 in her matches against Cristina Bucșa and Claire Liu, before going on to defeat Wang Xinyu 6-0, 6-0 in the third round.
Swiatek also won a set 6-1 against Zhu Lin at Wimbledon last month, and went on to Sara Sorribes Tomo 6-2, 6-0 before ultimately losing her quarter-final match to Elina Svitolina.

Can Swiatek maintain No. 1?

Even with these impressive results, Swiatek's position as No. 1 has been under threat a few times in recent months. The most prominent example was during the SW19, where going out in the quarter-final put the top spot within reach of world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.
However, in order to usurp Swiatek, the Belarusian player needed to reach the final of the grasscourt major, something which she just fell short of after she was defeated by Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals.
Next, there was a slight chance of Swiatek losing her position if she failed to make the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open last week, but she succeeded in doing so, thus removing the immediate threat to her reign at the top.
Sabalenka would have probably needed to win the Canadian Open last week in order to have any chance of taking over No. 1 before the US Open, but she crashed out in the Round of 16.
