Carlos Alcaraz US Open 2021
The seeds for the men's event at the upcoming US Open have been revealed, with Carlos Alcaraz taking the top spot and Christopher Eubanks being seeded for the first time in his career.
World No. 1 Alcaraz will be the top seed at the last Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows. Second seed Novak Djokovic had a possible opportunity to overtake the Spaniard in the rankings ahead of the tournament at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati this week.
However, the fact that Alcaraz made the final meant that even though the Serb won the ATP Masters 1000 event, he remained No. 2. Nevertheless, it is highly likely that Djokovic will overtake the 20-year-old after the US Open.
This is because he has 0 ranking points to lose at the Slam compared to defending champion Alcaraz's 2000, meaning regardless of the latter's results, all Djokovic needs to do is win one match.

Highest ever seeding for Rune as Eubanks seeded for first time

Meanwhile, Denmark's Holger Rune will be seeded fourth at the US Open, which is the highest he's ever been. The 20-year-old was seeded 28th last year, but has risen monumentally in the ATP Rankings since then and broke into the top 4 when they were updated on Monday, August 21.
The New York Slam also marks the first time that 27-year-old Eubanks has been seeded in his career. This comes after the American made his debut in the main draw of Wimbledon only last month and experienced a meteoric rise in the rankings after he made it to the quarter-finals of the grasscourt major. He will be the 28th seed at the US Open.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal of world No. 22 Jan-Lennard Struff and No. 28 Denis Shapovalov means that Sebastian Korda and Laslo Djere will enter as the 31st and 32nd seeds respectively.
