Coco Gauff has shared a sweet video of her brother celebrating her victory at the
US Open.
19-year-old Gauff had a dream run at the last Grand Slam of the year in New York. The American repeatedly lived up to the pressure of being one of the home favorites by ousting the likes of Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Ostapenko, and Karolina Muchova on her way to her first final at Flushing Meadows.
Once there, she faced second seed and new World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian was aiming for her second major title after winning the Australian Open earlier this year and started strongly by taking the first set 6-2.
However, Gauff fought back hard to emerge victorious from the match 2-6 6-3 6-2 and to lift the first Grand Slam trophy of her career in front of a home crowd. The American also earned 3 million dollars from winning the major and rose to World No. 3 in the WTA Ranking.
Gauff shares emotional video of family celebration
While there were many people celebrating Gauff's victory, it was the young star's brother who perhaps had one of the sweetest reactions to her winning match point. In a video shared by Gauff herself, he can be seen watching the final on the television.
As he and several others watch Gauff take the win, the room erupts into cheers. Her brother can be seen fist-bumping the air as he screams with happinness.
Gauff captioned the post on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"no wonder my brother didn’t answer the phone. legend says he’s still screaming to this day," followed by a laugh-till-cry emoji.
In her speech at the victory ceremony, Gauff jokingly mentioned that her brother hadn't picked up when she tried to call him after the win.
"I facetimed my brother right after but he didn't answer... and then he called me later but I had to go," she told the crowd at Flushing Meadows.
Gauff also thanked her family, especially her parents, for supporting her and helping her to reach these incredible heights in her career.
"Thank you guys. You believed in me from the beginning. My dad took me to this tournament, sitting right there, watching Venus and Serena compete, so it's really incredible to win on this stage," she said.
