Coco Gauff joked that her compatriots
Ben Shelton and
Christopher Eubanks 'think they know it all' as they competed in men's doubles at the
Cincinnati Open.
Former world doubles No. 1 Gauff has given her thoughts on Shelton and Eubanks' partnership at the Western & Southern Open in Ohio while also revealing that she taught the latter during their run in the mixed doubles at the
US Open.
Gauff has eight doubles titles to her name, five with Jessica Pegula and three with Caty McNally. The 19-year-old is also ranked No. 7 in singles and recently celebrated her victory at the DC Open, where she defeated Maria Sakkari in the final to lift the
WTA 500 title. She is currently competing at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati and will face world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals.
Gauff says she schooled Eubanks on his volleys
Speaking in an interview with Tennis Channel posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Gauff revealed that she gave Eubanks 'a little cr*p' about his volleys when they competed together at the US Open.
"In US Open, I gave Chris a little cr*p with his volleys. And he's like, it's not that easy, blah, blah, blah. And then, you know, I was like, you know, I was number one in the world. So I know a little something," she said.
The American went on to joke that they lost their match at the US Open because of Eubanks.
"And I play mixed doubles with him and we lost. No, I'm not going to. Well, we lost the match, you know, partly mainly because of him. I'm sure that will get clipped," she continued.
Gauff said she couldn't tell Shelton and Eubanks much
Gauff went on to talk about Shelton and Eubanks' doubles partnership, jokingly saying that 'they think they know it all' and there wasn't much she could tell them.
"You know, they think they know it all. You know, no, I mean, there's not like a lot I can tell them, but, you know, I did tell them I was like sometimes I did give like when they played with each other," she said.
Eubanks and Shelton went out in the Round of 16 at the
ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, being defeated by Edan Leshem and Enzo Couacaud 6-3, 7-6, 11-9.
Gauff clearly gets on well with them and even attended Eubanks' Round of 16 match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon last month to cheer him on.
