Novak Djokovic has signed countless autographs over the years, but one bizarre request from a fan at the US Open might stick out in his memory.
After a practice session ahead of the last Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows, 23-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic was asked by a young fan to sign his chest.
The 36-year-old smiled at the bizarre request but obliged the fan nonetheless, before ruffling his hair and leaving the court. The US Open and Tennis TV Instagram pages shared a video of the scene with the caption "This kid is never showering again."
The 36-year-old missed last year's US Open due to his unvaccinated status, as the United States barred internationals who had not received the COVID-19 vaccine from entering the country.
However, as these restrictions have since been lifted, Djokovic is back on the North American swing this year and has certainly received a warm welcome.
At the recent Cincinnati Open, the stands were filled simply to watch the Serb practice ahead of the ATP Masters 1000 event, which he went on to win. At the time, Djokovic expressed his gratitude toward his fans.
"It's really amazing. I'm very grateful for the presence of so many people on a practice session, which is amazing. Again, I did experience some tournaments throughout the world, similar atmospheres in terms of the great attendance on the practice courts.
"People were really into it. As I mentioned before, lots of young fans, which is always something I wish to see. That gives me even more inspiration to play my best tennis in the tournament," he said.
Undoubtedly his fans will be hoping their support will help Djokovic reach similar levels of success at the US Open.
