BREAKING: Genie Bouchard joins the professional pickleball tour starting in 2024. We’ve lost another one.
Eugenie Bouchard has become the latest tennis player to decide to defect and play pickleball. She has joined the PPA Tour from 2024 onwards joining Jack Sock.
Sock recently retired from tennis at the US Open to play pickleball, where has had success since it emerged as an alternative and it seems Bouchard will look to cash in on that too.
The former World No.5 and Wimbledon finalist at the age of 29 has been in and out of sport with injury since her ascendancy back in 2014. She lost at both the qualifying rounds most recently for Wimbledon and US Open.
Infamously, she lost to Dayana Yastremska who she beat in the first round at the Madrid Open with the tweet fiasco with Bouchard referring to Yastremska as a doper. She was subsequently snubbed at the net in Flushing Meadows.
Whether this means Bouchard's attempts to return to the top of the WTA Tour remain to be seen, but she will play pickleball going forward.
