2021 Gippsland Trophy Friday’s Schedule of Play with Halep and Osaka

The first week of February brings three WTA 500 tournaments, with 470 WTA points up for grabs in each. The 2021 Gippsland Trophy is one of these tournaments with a lot of star names featuring in the schedule of play.

Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina, and Simona Halep will be the biggest stars of Friday's schedule of Play at the 2021 Gippsland Trophy.

A 4-match Friday awaits in Melbourne as 8 players will battle it out for places in the semifinals. We start off at 06:00 CET with Simona Halep against Ekaterina Alexandrova. After that, we'll see Kaia Kanepi against Karolina Muchova.

Irina-Camelia Begu will take on Naomi Osaka after that and the program will be closed by Elise Mertens who takes on Elina Svitolina for a place in the semifinals.

A 7-match Wednesday full of great tennis is in store for tennis fans around the world with Elise Mertens opening up the programme shortly after midnight. She will be followed by Iga Swiatek who will take on Alexandrova and Osaka who will play Boulter. The programme will continue throughout the night as Simona Halep is also scheduled to play against Siegemund. The final match of the day will be between Kanepi and Kasatkina.

Naomi Osaka, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff will be the biggest stars of the Tuesday's schedule of Play at the 2021 Gippsland Trophy.

Elise Mertens will play one of the first matches of the day when she'll take on Mayo Hibi. Later, Johanna Konta will play against Bernarda Pera and young American talent, Coco Gauff will meet Katie Boulter.

Also some of the top-seeded players will come into play later in the day. Aryna Sabalenka will play against Kaia Kanepi while Naomi Osaka will take on Alizé Cornet. Fresh Grand Slam champion, Iga Swiatek will play against Kaja Juvan in her opening match of the 2021 season.

While Monday in Melbourne will begin with some of the first round matches, later in the day, we will witness some of the second-round matches as well and the top star of the tournament, Simona Halep will arrive on the courts of the 2021 Gippsland Trophy.

Coco Gauff will be one of the shiny names that will still need to play their first-round matches. The young American will take on Jil Teichmann in the first round and she will look forward to winning her second match of the 2021 season.

Later in the day, Jelena Ostapenko will kick-off the series of second-round matches against Danka Kovinic. She will be followed by Elina Svitolina, who will play against Andrea Petkovic and the world number 2, Simona Halep.

The experienced Romanian will take on the Russian youngster, Anastasia Potapova. It will be the first competitive match for Halep after her 2020 Roland Garros lost to Iga Swiatek. Except for that, she also played at the exhibition in Adelaide where she defeated Ashleigh Barty in the third set super tie-break.

Gippsland Trophy offers some exciting first-round encounters, with Daria Kasatkina, Caroline Garcia, Polona Hercog, Danka Kovinic, Bernarda Pera, Jelena Ostapenko, and Andrea Petkovic highlighting Sunday's action.

In the battle of the youngsters, Whitney Osuigwe takes upon Anastasia Potapova, while Daria Kasatkina faces Lesia Tsurenko at the same time. Later, Daria Kasatkina steps on the court against Mihaela Muzarnescu, followed by Caroline Garcia and Arina Rodionova.
