Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova withdraws from Western & Southern Open after visa delay, US Open participation in doubt

Olympic gold medallist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova withdrew from the Masters in Cincinnati after failing to obtain a US visa in time.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will not be competing at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati after she was barred from entry into the United States. The issue forced Pavlyuchenkova to withdraw from the event which she did. The Russian player announced the news on her official Twitter page explaining that she did not obtain her visa in time.

She also expressed her hope that she will get it in time to compete at the US Open. The issue is just one of many that has happened with Russian athletes entering the United States so it's not something that is too uncommon. Pavlyuchenkova wrote:

"Dear fans, Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Western & Southern Open. Still in Canada, I am waiting for my US visa. Hopefully, I'll get it soon and will be there in time for the US Open."

It's a bad look either way and we hope that Pavlyuchenkova obtain her visa on time for the US Open. She is having a career-best year winning a gold medal in Tokyo as well as reaching the French Open final.
