Petra Kvitova has not enjoyed too much success recently but she got to winning ways against
Madison Keys at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
The Czech player arrived in Cincinnati with shaky form a tricky opponent in Madison Keys. Luckily for Kvitova, Keys also struggled with form recently and it showed today. The Czech player got off to a fast start breaking Keys in the first game.
The American fought back to make it 3-3 and we had a close match for a while. However by the end of the set Kvitova once again established herself taking another lead 6-5 before closing out the set with 7-5. It was a fairly close set but Kvitova was a little bit better on serve than Keys, especially the 2nd serve.
The 2nd set was a very interesting one as Kvitova once again took the early break in the 2nd set. This time around Keys had plenty of chances to fight back but she failed to do so in several instances. Kvitova was able to hold off Keys several times and that proved key.
She was able to serve out the match closing out the 2nd set with 6-4. A great showing by Kvitova who upped her serving in the 2nd set in order to fend off Keys who was starting to catch a rhythm. She hit 9 aces in the 2nd set saving 7 break points as well.
