Andreescu falls apart against Golubic in Billie Jean King Cup

Bianca Andreescu won the opening set against Viktorija Golubic but she fell apart, later on, to lose the match and put Canada in a tough spot.

The winner of this match will advance to the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup and after the first set, it seems like Canada was closer to it. Upon conclusion of the match, Switzerland looked far closer to it as Golubic managed to come back and win against Andreescu in a match where the Canadian lost confidence after taking the first.

She was great in that first set attacking and hitting plenty of winners that powered her past a solid but not great Golubic. Things rapidly changed in the second set as Andreescu produced a very poor display spraying the ball anywhere but the court.

Only 7 winners in that set compared to 17 in the first provided a clear picture of where her game went wrong. It was even worse in the final set as Golubic played her best yet having plenty of confidence after the comeback in the second set.

Andreescu was all over the place in the final set unable to get anything going. A lot of confused looks as she watched ball after ball sail wide. The loss means Fernandez must beat Bencic to keep Canada alive.
