2019 US Open champion
Bianca Andreescu took a five-month break from tennis towards the end of the 2021 season, and the Canadian revealed she focused on mental healing and social work during that period of time.
After suffering an early round loss in Stuttgart on her return, Andreescu is currently competing at the
Madrid Open. The former World No.4 breezed past this year's Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins in straight sets, and later spoke to the press about how she invested her energy during her time-off.
"I did some charity work which kind of brings me back to like my main goal, which is to help others," said the 21-year old. "I kind of want to just use my platform, which is tennis, to widen that variety. So being in that position really reminded me why I actually play the sport.”
Andreescu revealed she still participated in other sporting activities besides tennis during her five-month break. Furthermore, Mississauga native stated she rediscovered her love for music, which had been an influential part of her life growing up.
"I picked up martial arts," she said. "I took dance lessons. And I played a lot of basketball. Yeah, just a bunch of stuff.
"I started making some music as well again, because I started that during the quarantine back in 2020. But I kind of picked it up again”
