11th November Anett Kontaveit will play a farewell match in Tallinn with Ons Jabeur
After many spoke out at the disrespect felt towards former World No.2, Anett Kontaveit during Wimbledon, she will get a farewell at least back at home in Estonia.
It has been confirmed that Kontaveit will play a farewell exhibition on the 11th November. This is against close friend Ons Jabeur.
Jabeur was one of many who paid tribute to Kontaveit on retirement aged just 27 due to persistent back injuries. "Anett my friend, your joy, your warmth and energy will be missed. Congratulations on an amazing career ❤️ Thank you for all the memories ❤️ Lots of love 😘 ," said the 28-year-old.
She also remarked that she tried to talk her out of retirement on multiple occasions but her body just couldn't hold up anymore.
Many remarked during Wimbledon that Kontaveit should've got a better send-off. Through the rain delays, she was shunted onto an outside court without seating and barely any standing run.
She won through the first game and her court allocation was increased but she was retired by Marie Bouzkova 6-1, 6-2 on Court 18.
Finally, she played mixed doubles with Emil Ruusuvouri but this was a mere year after she was ranked World No.2.
Likely though she will get the sendoff she wants in Tallinn against one of her closest friends and on her own terms.
