Some notable WTA players have paid tribute to Estonia’s Anett
Kontaveit after she ended her singles career following her defeat in
Wimbledon’s
second round.
The 27-year-old ended her singles career after suffering a defeat
in the round of 64 against Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzková with a score of 6-1,
6-2.
Some of her notable WTA colleagues, including the current
world number one Iga Swiatek, paid tribute to the Tallinn-born and wished her
well for the future.
“Congratulations on your career and thank you for every
memory @AnettKontaveit," tweeted the four-time Grand Slam winner.
Last year’s Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur also thanked Kontaveit
for all the memories in a post on Instagram.
"Anett my friend, your joy, your warmth and energy will
be missed. Congratulations on an amazing career ❤️ Thank you for all the memories
❤️
Lots of love 😘 ," said the 28-year-old.
Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina also congratulated Kontaveit on
her ‘beautiful career’ in a tweet.
Kontaveit was ranked number two in WTA ranking back in 2022
and she ended up winning six senior titles in her career.
However, her record at Grand Slams was pretty average where
other than the Australian Open, she has never played in the quarterfinals stage.
In the French and US Open, her best outings were the fourth-round exits in 2015, 2018 and 2020. In Wimbledon, her best outing was third-round exits in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
