Amanda Anisimova is out of the 2022
US Open after a match with Putintseva losing it 3-6 3-6 and after the match, she explained the reasons for it.
Amanda Anisimova has had a really strong year so far with a couple of notable results including a trophy fairly early in the year and a good run at all the grand slams. All but the US Open, as she lost in the opening round of major in a lacklustre performance against Yulia Putintseva.
Anisimova looked pale throughout the match, never showing the fire she usually brings to the court. An injury is to blame as she revealed in an Instagram post after the match. Anisimova described what had happened in Cincinnati and how it affected her US Open:
"Damn the last couple of weeks have been tough. I broke my toe in Cincinnati last week, and I’ve done everything I could to get ready for the Open. I’m proud of myself for giving myself a chance and playing the whole match. Even with getting injections in my foot that hurt more than the actual injury that I’m still recovering from lol. But I did all of this because I love this sport so much, even though it brings a lot of pain and disappointment. I hope I’ll be back stronger next year, and thank you to the crowd that is always the best here in New York. I love playing here."
