Two time
Indian Wells winner,
Victoria Azarenka is into the Last 16 after seeing off Petra Kvitova in a 7-5, 6-4 win in the Californian desert.
Azarenka will now face this week's giant killer in Aliaksandra Sasnovich who has defeated Emma Raducanu and Simona Halep back-to-back and will now have her compatriot in her sights.
But Vika will have other ideas despite a scrappy affair at times in the battle of Grand Slam champions.
The first set was case and point with the duo miles from their best and five consecutive breaks to begin the tie.
Kvitova looked to be suffering with tape on her thigh after calling the trainer and Azarenka saved three break points to then take the first set against the Czech ace.
While to win Azarenka produced an exquisite lob to break and served for the match with a timely break and claimed it to battle through in a tie which is pivotal for both.
For the victor, she recently dropped points from last year's American hard court swing so sits outside the top 30, while Kvitova will drop last year's Roland Garros points this week so for Azarenka, a Sasnovich win and further run could be vital.
