Simona Halep has had her Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing date confirmed for her appeal against a four year ban from the sport which the former World No.1 reacted favourably too.
Halep's hearing will be heard between 7-9 February, 2024 and will mark a third year almost since she was banned from the sport initially after the 2022 US Open.
This after the substance Roxudustat was found in her system after losing in the opening round of the 2022 edition at Flushing Meadows. After many thought that Halep who herself maintained that she had never taken any substances knowingly ever, it was confirmed that a member of Patrick Mouratoglou's team was responsible.
This after a collagen cream was given to Halep seemingly with the banned substance in it. She was later suspended for four years after a long protracted process which saw her career put on hold for some time while she protested her innocence. This included the initial hearing constantly being put back by the ITIA, with Halep speaking out multiple times against the organisation.
But she reacted to having the chance to finally get her appeal heard next year and in a brief statement said that she was glad for the opportunity.
"The Court of Arbitration for Sport has decided hearings in my case to be between 7-9 February 2024. I am glad to have the opportunity to present and prove my innocence before an Independent tribunal. Thank you," she said in a video posted on her Instagram.
