Barbora Krejcikova is through to her first Grand Slam final after a stellar comeback win against
Maria Sakkari 7-5 4-6 9-7.
It was a fantastic semifinal match at
Roland Garros between Maria Sakkari and Barbora Krejcikova. It was the Czech who emerged victorious in this one after a sensational comeback win. She started off better in the first set as well taking a 3-1 lead with Krejcikova struggling to find rhythm.
It was similar to the slow start against Gauff but once again Krejcikova was able to pull it out. She actually went on a 5-0 run to take a 5-3 lead before Sakkari pulled it back to 5-5. In the end, it was Krejcikova who won it 7-5. Both players missed quite a bit in the opening set.
The 2nd set featured a very strong start by Sakkari who jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after some strong play. Krejcikova tried to hit some winners but she committed quite a few errors at the start. She settled a bit but despite pulling one break back Sakkari still won the set 6-4.
The 3rd set more or less featured good play from both players as there weren't really many chances for breaks. Sakkari used her only break point to break Krejcikova and take a lead. She maintained it until 5-4 when she served for the match and got broken.
Krejcikova won the next game as well taking a 6-5 lead but Sakkari sent us to extra games with strong service games. Krejcikova was the better player in those extra games but only at 8-7, she was able to close it out.
