Barbora Krejcikova became just the 5th player in WTA history to defeat a WTA #1, #2 and #3 at the same event completing the amazing week in Dubai Duty Free with a triumph over Iga Swiatek in the final. The Czech player was a huge outsider in this one but there is something that simply works for her against Swiatek. She was one of the rare players to defeat Swiatek last year as well and that win too was in a final. This one was as well and it concluded a spectacular week for her in Dubai. What allowed her to win was her great play combined with a rather shaky level from Swiatek.
She was uncomfortable for much of the match and it only got worse as time went on. She was not spraying winners as much as in the previous days as we mostly saw unforced errors from her. The first set ended 6-4 for Krejcikova as we saw breaks on both sides. Ultimately, Krejcikova played the rallies better and took the set.
Swiatek applied heavy pressure early in the second set and she had break points but failed to convert them. Right after that, Krejcikova converted hers and took a 4-2 lead. She would add another break to completely take over the match and finish it off with 6-2. A hugely impressive win for Krejcikova who was the best player this week in Dubai.
