World No.1
Ashleigh Barty celebrated her 25th birthday last weekend by winning both the singles and doubles titles at the
Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, a feat that hasn't been accomplished on the WTA Tour in 20 years.
The Australian native captured her third singles title of the season in her Stuttgart debut, after coming back from a set down in three consecutive matches.
"I felt like this week was a massive week for us," Barty told reporters following her victory. "We adapted to the conditions well, found our way in some crucial moments in some tough matches, and ultimately come away with the title and some really fun memories."
The 2019 Roland Garros champion elaborated with WTA Insider on her brilliant run, where she was on the verge of defeat several times before pulling off the amazing comeback.
"Yeah, an incredible week here in Stuttgart, a very busy week, very tiring week, but certainly a good dilemma to have," reflected Barty. "But there were plenty of moments this week where I felt like there was massive growth for me on the court and off the court as well."
When asked for the defining moments during the tournament, Barty focused on the points where she had to face an uphill battle after losing the first set in three straight matches.
"Probably the response in the quarter, semi, and final, of losing the first set, those next couple of games in each of those second sets were a massive turning point," admitted the Aussie. "To be able to reset and continue to chip away and adjust tactically when I needed to and to adapt, but to ultimately keep myself in the hunt, was massive."
