Following the withdrawal of the four WTA Top 10 players, Belinda Bencic is the fifth player on the list to skip the 2020 US Open.
Women's world number 1,
Ashleigh Barty,
Elina Svitolina,
Bianca Andreescu, and
Kiki Bertens announced that they won't play this year's US Open some time ago. Now, they are joined by another Top 10 player,
Belinda Bencic who announced that she will miss the full US swing including the
Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the US Open. In her statement on Twitter, she wrote:
"I have made the difficult decision to skip the US swing in New York and will return to the tour starting in Rome next month," Bencic wrote. "I would like to thank the US Open and the USTA for all their work and effort they have put together to have both Cincinnati and the US Open take place this month. I am looking forward to returning to New York next year and wish everyone competing there in the coming weeks the best of luck.”
