Belinda Bencic rallied from being down big in the first set to defeat
Coco Gauff and set up the final against Iga Swiatek.
It was a strong match from Belinda Bencic who defeated Coco Gauff in three sets advancing to the
Adelaide International final where Iga Swiatek awaits. It was not a good start for Bencic at all who found herself down 3-0 at the start of the match despite having break point chances in the first game. After that, she started playing much better especially on her serve where she did not allow any break points for the remainder of the set. Gauff experience her own serving woes so Bencic was able to force a tiebreak. In it, she completely dominated winning it 7-2.
At the start of the 2nd set, Bencic had to save 3 break points in order to win the game and after successfully doing that she broke Gauff in the next one. The players traded games until we arrived at 4-1. Bencic had chances to seal it with another break but failed to do so. Gauff struck in the next one pulling the break back to make it 4-3. We then saw two breaks in a row as Bencic broke Gauff to take a 5-3 lead before failing to convert that into a match victory. Ultimately we ended up in a tiebreak where Gauff played better overall winning it 7-4.
The final set was largely underwhelming from Gauff who was overmatched by Bencic in rallies. She lost her serve in the first game and from there it became only worse for Gauff who would lose her serve once more en route to the 2-6 3rd set defeat. A strong showing from Bencic who won after close to three hours of tennis with the final score being 7-6(2) 6-7(4) 6-2. She will face Iga Swiatek in the final tomorrow.
