Alexandra Eala has confirmed a new event in her calendar after receiving a wildcard for the
Berlin Ladies Open, a tournament where she will look to continue her strong grass-court results so far.
The Filipina has played only around 30 grass-court matches in her career to date, despite the surface already emerging as one of her more productive environments. At 21 years old, she is still in only her third season competing regularly on the WTA Tour, meaning her overall experience on grass remains limited.
Recently, she captured her second WTA 125 title on grass at the Birmingham Open and extended a winning streak to six consecutive matches on the surface following her Queen’s Club Championships campaign earlier this month.
However, her run at Queen’s came to an abrupt end in the second round, where she lost
to close friend Iva Jovic in straight sets (2-6, 2-6). Despite that setback, Eala holds a strong 21-9 record on grass (70%), significantly stronger than her results on other surfaces.
She has also reached her only WTA 250-level final on grass, which came last year in Eastbourne. On that occasion, she missed out on a maiden title after failing to convert match points against Maya Joint, who ultimately went on to win her first professional trophy.
Berlin wildcard confirmation
Eala had initially been expected to enter the qualifying draw for the
Berlin Ladies Open, but organisers ultimately opted to award her a wildcard due to her growing global profile and appeal. The 21-year-old will now enter the main draw directly, joining a field that includes nine top-10 players, with only Iga Swiatek absent from the elite group.

The draw will feature Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff among several other leading names on the WTA Tour, making Berlin one of the most significant events in the build-up to Wimbledon.
Tournament organisers have assembled a strong field, and the announcement of Eala’s wildcard reinforces the depth of the entry list, alongside local player Eva Lys, who also received direct entry.
The Berlin Ladies Open will begin on June 15, with added attention also placed on the doubles competition, where Serena Williams is expected to return to action. Reports indicate
she could partner world No. 10 Karolina Muchova, as she continues preparations for Wimbledon through selective competitive appearances.
