Kiki Bertens will not be competing at this year's US Open after announcing her withdrawal due to the ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Bertens admitted that the 14-day quarantine needed when she would return to the Netherlands is a risk she can't afford to take; with the clay court tournaments in Rome and Paris on the horizon straight after.
"After long consideration I have decided not to go to the states for Cincinnati and the
US Open. The situation around COVID-19 is still that worrying and the health of everyone and the control over this virus is priority," wrote Bertens on Instagram.
"Our Prime Minister indicated yesterday that we should be quarantined for 14 days; after coming back from the States. Of course we respect this as a team; this would disturb our preparation for my beloved clay court tournaments in Rome and Paris. I hope the situation will soon take a positive turn and wish everyone good health. Take care!"
As a result of this withdrawal, Francesca Di Lorenzo moves into the main draw as a direct entry; with Sachia Vickery receiving a wild card as a result.
