After scoring a huge comeback win over Azarenka, Biana Andreescu continued her excellent play taking down rising youngster Emma Navarro in two sets at
Roland Garros (French Open).
The Canadian hasn't had much success this year but she has had some great performances that were unfortunately cut short by injuries. Her Miami Open run looked promising but she injured her ankle which delayed her clay season a little bit. She did start playing better lately and this run in Paris is certainly looking quite promising.
After a comeback win over Azarenka, Andreescu continued playing well here keeping the match in two sets which is what she was looking for before the match.
Excellent play
The start of the match certainly looked strong as she took an early lead and then completely outplayed Navarro down the stretch to take the first 6-1. Andreescu was just dominant from the baseline with 11 winners and only 6 errors, a much better line than that of Navarro who has 2 and 9. Navarro countered well in the second set taking a lead midway through but Andreescu quickly realized the danger of that and got serious.
A 4-2 lead would quickly turn to a 4-4 score with the Andreescu applying more and more pressure. It was very good to see her being able to seemingly flip a switch and start playing much better. The heavy pressure resulted in a complete turnaround as she broke Navarro in the final game of the match to seal the victory 6-4.
