Bianca Andreescu says goodbye once again in the Grand Slam qualifiers, after falling in the second round at Roland Garros against Viktoria Hrunčáková. The former US Open champion will miss the French Open main draw for the second consecutive year after losing in qualifying.
Since her title back in the 2019 US Open, the Canadian had only been absent from Grand Slams due to injury. Her last appearance was at the 2024 US Open, where she fell in the first round. However, since then – with a low ranking – she has not been able to reach main draws, and has played several qualifying events to try to return to the main draw of a major.
Back in 2025, Andreescu in fact did not compete in any Grand Slam main draw, while she fell in the second round of qualifying both at the French Open and Wimbledon. This time, she once again tried to reach the main draw through qualifying, but the former world No. 4 ended up saying goodbye early and brings her clay swing to an end.
Andreescu (No. 160) squandered a set lead against world No. 224 Hrunčáková – after recovering in the first-set tiebreak – and ultimately lost in three sets after two hours and 37 minutes.
The 25-year-old had left strong impressions in her debut against local wildcard Daphnée Mpetshi Perricard, winning in straight sets, and later produced emotional scenes consoling her after the Frenchwoman’s tearful defeat.
Andreescu will now take a few weeks off before returning for the grass swing in the coming weeks. Her next commitment is expected to be the Birmingham qualifier on grass courts, likely focusing her preparation on the Wimbledon qualifying rounds in June.
