Bianca Andreescu pulls out of WTA Rome due to COVID-19 rules

Bianca Andreescu missed the Madrid Open after testing positive for the Coronavirus in Spain and now she is forced to pull out of Rome as well.

It has been a nightmarish fortnight for Bianca Andreescu who is set to miss the 2nd straight event due to COVID-19 rules. World number six was forced to pull out of Madrid after testing positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in Spain. The Canadian player has tested negative since then but she still can't participate in the event due to strict rules.

Writing on Instagram she said:

"Although I have tested negative following my isolation period in Madrid and having been back in full training the last few days, the Italian Government rules put me at risk of being isolated again if I travel to Italy, so unfortunately I have to withdraw from the Italian Open this year"

The Canadian has been enduring a rough stretch after a brilliant run to the Miami Open final. She was forced to retire in that match due to a right foot injury and she had hoped to return to tennis on the European Clay swing. Since she was forced to pull out of two events her French Open preparation has been hampered.

It's a setback but the Canadian will find a way to come back to the top form which saw her win the 2019 US Open.
