Eugenie Bouchard will play in the main draw of the Madrid Open which kicked off on Monday April 24 but in the WTA draw, today on Tuesday April 25 after sweeping through qualifying.
Bouchard eased past Sara Sorribes-Tormo due to retirement yesterday and made light work of American, Elizabeth Mandlik today 6-3, 6-2.
The former Wimbledon finalist lost a total of seven games in two matches to make the main draw and will now find out who she will play in the opening round.
It is a return to form for Bouchard who has played limited tournaments since her 2020-2021 career surge reaching the final in Istanbul but then needing shoulder surgery which has kept her mostly out since then.
She played Australian Open qualifying in January losing to Ashlyn Krueger and returned last month at Copa Colsanitas Bogota but has only reached the second round in each of her comeback tournaments losing to Danka Kovinic last week in W100 Oeiras.
