The Canadian former world number 5 was the biggest star of
Thursday's schedule of play alongside Simona Halep. In the second round, Bouchard faced Tamara Zidansek. On the other court at
Prague Open,
Laura Siegemund took on
Sara Sorribes Tormo in the other 2nd round match.
And the fourth day in the Czech Republic began with a great battle. The first set of the match between Bouchard and Zidansek reached the tie-break, and it was the Canadian who got an upper hand in the first set to win it 7-2 in the tie-break.
However, after she led already 4-1 in the second, she lost her lead and Zidansek triumphed also 7-2 in the tie-break of the second set. In the third set, Bouchard prevailed to win the match 7-6(2), 6-7(2), 6-2 and set up a quarterfinal match against
Elise Mertens.
Sara Sorribes Tormo and Laura Siegemund fought for the other quarterfinal spot. This match, however, was not so intense as the one between Bouchard and Zidansek. Sorribes Tormo dominated in the match to win it 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 43 minutes. In the quarterfinal, she will take on Irina-Camelia Begu or Leonie Kung.
