Anne Keothavong
highlighted the support of
Alex de Minaur in
Katie Boulter's career.
The former
world No. 48, who is now the captain of the United Kingdom's Billie Jean King
Cup team, commented on the good form of 26-year-old Katie Boulter. Boulter
recently won her first WTA 250 title in Nottingham this month and is currently
the last British woman standing in the main draw.
According
to Keothavong, Australian player Alex de Minaur has provided stability to
Boulter in her career. His support has been instrumental in her recent success
and development as a player:
“Alex is so
down to earth and so lovely,” she said.
“I hate to
say it but they are sickly – in a very cute kind of way, very supportive of
each other.”
"You
can tell how much they care for each other and how much they support each other
and it was great to see him courtside supporting her after his match and you
see it within their families as well with their mums, Alex has got his mum and
his sister around and Katie’s got her mum and grandad and brother around and
the families get on well,” BBC commentator said.
“And Katie
is a delightful woman, she really is and she’s good company. Absolutely, if
you're settled in your personal life, if you’re happy there, then you’re work
life becomes a lot easier,” Keothovang said.
"It’s
clear what you have to do and you have good people around you consistently
giving you the same kind of messaging and they’re emotionally consistent,”
"It's
hard enough being a tennis player the emotional highs and lows but you need
people around you who are going to stay level-headed and not look too far ahead
or get too excited but help you keep your feet on the ground.”
Katie
Boulter will face Elena Rybakina in the third round of the 2023
Wimbledon. The
British player is set to achieve her highest career ranking (currently world
No. 71 in the live rankings) and equals her previous performance in 2022, when
she reached the third round of Wimbledon and secured a victory over the 6th
seed and former world No. 1, Karolina Pliskova.
