World number one
Iga Swiatek is expecting a difficult
challenge when she will face America’s
Sofia Kenin in the first round of the
Australian Open.
The first Grand Slam of the year is already underway in Melbourne
where players from all over the world are battling out to secure the ultimate
prize. Swiatek will begin her competition with a match against the current
world number 38 Kenin on Monday.
Talking ahead of the match, Swiatek stated that it ‘strikes’
her sometimes to think about how the career of both players went after they met
in the final of the French Open in 2020 and also suggested that the former
Australian Open going to pose a serious threat to her in the upcoming fixture.
"I mean, it kind of strikes me sometimes that we played
my first Grand Slam final was against Sofia and now we're playing in the first
round,” she said. “It's pretty weird. That's how our life journeys kind of went
apart. I know she's been playing some solid tennis.
"She was playing in Abu Dhabi. It's not going to be
easy. I'll just get prepared the same way as usual. We're going to talk about
the tactics. Yeah, we haven't played in a while, so I have to kind of see how
she's playing right now. That's all."
