The story of
Carla Suarez Navarro is one with a truly happy ending but that did not happen by chance, the Spaniard was always a proper fighter.
When Carla Suarez Navarro got diagnosed with cancer everything stopped for the Spaniard. Nothing really mattered but the most important matches in her career. Brave as ever, the Spaniard fought the disease and she won to the joys of many fellow tennis players and tennis fans. However, that match was not supposed to be her last match.
The Spaniard was determined to play tennis once more as she wanted to say goodbye to the game she loves on the court. She was able to do so and not only did she play but she played very good tennis. She took part in the Grand Slam events along with the Olympic Games and Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Her final career match was played at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and she was sent away with an ovation from fans and players alike.
However, the story does not end there. Suarez Navarro is receiving a proper send-off by the WTA who is awarding her with the WTA Comeback Player of the Year award. It's a deserving award not only for coming back and playing very solid tennis overall but also for all the things she achieved on the court as well as off the court proving better in the most important match of her life. Congrats!
