Caroline Garcia concluded a very long but superb week in Cincinnati by beating
Petra Kvitova in the final 6-2 6-4.
In spite of a gloomy weather prognosis, Garcia and Kvitova were able to start their match on time and Garcia enjoyed a ridiculous start. She was blasting winners left and right against Kvitova who was left stunned as the French player jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Kvitova found some rhythm towards the end but it was not enough to overturn the score.
Garcia took the set 6-2 and even if the score indicates a thrashing it isn't really like that. Most of the games that Garcia won on her serve featured a proper battle. The start is what undid Kvitova the most. Ironically she suffered the same thing at the start of the 2nd set dropping her serve and falling behind.
She took a medical timeout as well and started playing a bit better after it. She would force break points in two consecutive service games for Garcia but use none of the break points. The ones at 3-2 were really costly as she was up 40-0 before squandering all there of them and losing the game.
She would not see a single break point until the end of the match as the French player cruised to a 6-4 finish. This is the 3rd WTA 1000 trophy she won in her career after taking Wuhan and Beijing in 2017. She will return to the top 20 after this result.
